Optum Bank

Commercial bank · Draper, United States

Open in Bank Index

Optum Bank is a Utah-chartered bank owned by UnitedHealth Group, opened in 2003, that does one thing: it holds tax-advantaged health accounts. At 30 June 2026 it had USD 21.43 billion of assets and USD 16.52 billion of deposits in a single office in Draper, Utah. Its products are health savings accounts with an investment option, flexible spending accounts, health reimbursement arrangements, dependent care accounts, commuter benefits and Medicare medical savings accounts, all reached through a payment card and an online portal. For a business the relationship is as an employer buying benefit administration, not as an account holder. There is no business checking account, no lending, no payment rails for company money and no international service.

No safeguarding, BIN sponsorship or agency banking offer; the bank's card programme serves its own health accounts. · source
2.0Online businesses: e-commerce and SaaS
The payment card works at merchants selling eligible health items, but the bank provides no acquiring or settlement service to merchants. No API banking, no receiving accounts and no financing; a software company can only buy benefit administration. · source
2.0High-risk verticals (iGaming, cannabis, adult, forex)
Accounts exist only to pay qualified medical expenses, so gambling, cannabis, adult and forex businesses are outside the product by design. · source
1.5Foreign-owned & non-resident companies
Eligibility depends on a United States high-deductible health plan and an IRS-qualifying tax status, so a foreign-owned company cannot use the bank at all. · source
1.5On-ramp: buy crypto with fiat
Optum Bank offers no business operating account, and HSA money is meant for qualified medical expenses, so a company has no way to fund an exchange from it; this is a limit of the product rather than a stated crypto ban, so evidence is thin. · source
1.5Off-ramp: crypto to fiat in a business account
No account at Optum Bank can receive a company's crypto sale proceeds, since it only holds tax-advantaged health accounts; nothing on its site mentions crypto either way, checked September 2026. · source
