MUFG
MUFG is Japan's largest financial group and a global systemically important bank, formed in 2005 from Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group and UFJ Holdings. MUFG Bank serves corporates in Japan and through about 2,700 locations in more than 50 countries, and the group owns Krungsri in Thailand, Bank Danamon in Indonesia and about 22 percent of Morgan Stanley. It reported record net income of 2,427.2 billion yen for the year to March 2026. Its Progmat platform issues stablecoins under Japan's 2023 law, and the three megabanks plan a joint yen stablecoin in fiscal 2026. Japan's securities regulator recommended administrative action against MUFG Bank and its securities affiliates in 2024 for sharing client information.
