Cross River Bank
Cross River Bank is a New Jersey state-chartered, FDIC-insured bank in Fort Lee that runs most of its business as payment and lending infrastructure for fintech companies rather than as a branch bank. It held USD 8.53 billion of assets and USD 6.68 billion of deposits at 30 June 2026, with 938 staff and only two branches, in Teaneck and Wilmington. Partners originate loans, issue cards and open accounts on its charter, including Affirm, Upstart, Stripe and X Money, and its onchain finance unit banks Circle, Coinbase, Gemini, Fireblocks and Transak. Direct business banking is small: tiered business savings paid up to 3.50% APY in December 2025 while business money market checking paid 0.07% APY. The FDIC issued a consent order in March 2023 over unsafe or unsound fair lending compliance practices that requires written non-objection before the bank offers new credit products or partners with new third parties.
