Ally Financial is a Detroit-based bank holding company with 199.8 billion dollars of assets at 30 June 2026 and 9.6 million customers. Its bank, Ally Bank, is a Utah state-chartered FDIC-insured institution with a single office in Sandy, Utah and 188.2 billion dollars of assets, and it sells only consumer products: checking, savings at 3.00 percent APY, money market, CDs, IRAs, car loans, mortgages and brokerage. For a company the decisive fact is in Ally's own deposit agreement, which says in plain words that it does not offer business accounts and reserves the right to close an account used for business purposes such as inventory buying or payroll. The same agreement says Ally does not offer outgoing international wires and charges 20 dollars for a domestic one. Ally does serve businesses on the credit side, through Ally Corporate Finance lending to private-equity-backed middle-market companies and through its dealer financing arm, but neither comes with a deposit or cash management account.
